Please come to our arts benefit on Friday, June 12 at 8 p.m.! Join us in a hidden outdoor art lounge in the heart of the Lower East Side. In a backyard of all art mediums, and a visual delight for all kinds of creative types, we'll have live music, bloodwrestling, beer, and Grog-n-Scrod sangria, amidst an all night art opening featuring the twisted talents of: Jenny Gonzalez, Amy Chace and Daniella Day. Plus art installations by art.les.nyc studio's founding artist Aaron Thompson, including a new, 10 ft. tall, skull-faced contemporary lady liberty that watches over the illuminated gallery.
THIS EVENING BENEFITS: GLOB - GORGEOUS LADIES OF BLOODWRESTLING, THE SHADOW, and our host Art.LES.NYC STUDIOS
GLOB needs a new pool, new custom cut foam, and an endless supply of fake blood. Grown women wrestling in a kiddie pool wreak havoc on it. THE SHADOW is NYC's only underground newspaper, publishing on the LES since 1988. THE SHADOW sponsors legendary annual concerts in Tompkins Sq. Park, on 7th St. and Ave A, from May thru October. Each concert is free to the public but incurs a range of mandatory expenses including permits and stage rental. These shows feature NYC musicians, writers, political activists, speakers, dancers, poets, and Lower East Luminaries. Featuring: Regan Youth, False Prophets, Hammerbrain, David Peel and The Lower East Side, Norman Seigal, Wombat in Combat, Cinema Cinema, GLOB and many other political organizations, non-profits, and animal rights and environmental groups.
GLOB, THE SHADOW, and ART LES.NYC STUDIOS work to bring free or low cost arts and entertainment to a cross-cultural LES community. We are a very small group of dedicated individuals committed to our arts programming - despite soaring rents, lost venues, limited funds, and the continuous cultural genocide sweeping New York City.
Please join us on June 12th to celebrate and support the vitality of our the counter cultural arts community that still survives!
Live Music from 8-10pm:
Michelle Leona - Haunting accordion songs (just added!)
Jessica Delfino - Infamous and dirty multi-instrumental musical wisdom
The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players - Indie-vaudeville-art-rock-slideshow family trio
Wombat in Combat - Punk activists and innovators, playing annually in Tompkins Sq. Park
Cinema Cinema- Experimental Brooklyn punks performing as "The Funeral Suits" also playing annually in Tompkins Sq. Park.
10-11pm
GLOB - GORGEOUS LADIES OF BLOODWRESTLING!
Live lady warriors, with ridiculous vendettas wrestling in fake blood to punk rock! Hilarious characters and story lines, political satire, NYC parodies, social commentary, feminist ideals, stunts, secret weapons, and guts! With a special appearance by: The Gorgeous LADS of Bloodwrestling. Plus offensive songs provided by Dysfunctional Director of Half-Time Entertainment: Touching You.
About The Exhibiting Artists:
Jenny "DevilDoll" Gonzalez is an NYC based artist and the underground cartoonist behind Too Negative - featured in The NY Waste newspaper. She's done a host of other illustration work, installations, film, and trained rat performances. She is currently singing for Rubber Room Rats and playing with knives. Her paintings and drawings focus on fantastical creatures, invented landscapes, prescription medications, and elements of the occult. www.jennydevildoll.com
Amy Chace is an artist, illustrator, and the ferocious front woman behind Trauma Team 666: NYC's raunchiest and bloodiest punk band. She is also the mouthpiece/referee for GLOB. Her artwork ranges many motifs and mediums, but often features bloodied and vandalized barbies that take on new lives as rock stars, killer clowns, and fashion icons of the bizarre. www.spitfaced.etsy.com
Daniella Day is a painter, collage artist, advocate for the arts, and founder of GLOB, Gorgeous Ladies of Bloodwrestling. She also organizes original art, cultural, and performance events, striving to keep offbeat art happenings local, affordable, and amazing. One of her organizations, WAR, (Women in Art and Rock) will be presenting: ALPHA WOMEN ATTACK THE LOWER EAST SIDE in Tompkins Square Park on Saturday, June 20th from 2 - 6pm. It will be a female-focused concert and political rally uniting women (and their comrades) of different art backgrounds and music genres including musical comedy, world music, burlesque, poetry, rock, and punk.
